Based in Chapel-en-le-Frith in the heart of the Peak District, Mac Burnham Traditional Butchers is a popular and renowned supplier of locally-sourced meats and quality handmade delicacies. The traditional butchers shop stocks a range of meats, pastries and pies.

The nine-year-established family business is owned and run by Mac Burnham, an experienced butcher and featured guest on foody TV favourites, Secret Supper Club and There’s No Taste Like Home. Mac also supplies and delivers meats and speciality pies and pastries to his growing client base of pubs, hotels, restaurants and delicatessens in the High Peak.

The usual Thursday morning jobs at Mac Burnham Butchers typically include getting the bacon sliced and prepped ready to be delivered to Buxton businesses for a busy weekend of trade. However, disaster struck one morning, as staff came into work to find their trusty old bacon slicing machine had finally called it quits!

With Buxton facing a baconless weekend, Mac needed to act fast! Having successfully financed equipment with Johnson Reed earlier in the year, Mac turned to catering accounts manager, Ian Gage, to facilitate the necessary finance for a replacement.

Mac sent some over some sausage rolls as thanks, but they didn’t last long in the JR office!

Within hours, the necessary documentation had been processed for a new bacon slicer from Superior Food Machinery, and the facility was promptly approved. The lease agreement and speedy turnaround meant the equipment could be delivered the following day and put to use immediately, minimising downtime and keeping vital production on track. As a repeat customer, Mac understands the benefits of leasing and spreading the cost of equipment over a series of tax-efficient repayments, rather than purchasing outright and prohibiting working capital.

Mac commented, “I never really considered leasing as an option, I had always thought that the way forward was to save and buy outright. I had a major breakdown on a key machine at a time when I didn’t have the funds to replace it. I contacted Superior Food Machinery for a replacement and they put me in touch with Ian Gage at Johnson Reed, who dealt with everything. The whole process was so easy and made sound economical sense. Ian was professional and efficient and got me a really good deal. I feel confident that I can overcome any future business disruption with Johnson Reed at hand to deal with my business needs.”
